Hanging Fireplace in a Mid Century Modern Home

Mid Century Modern Home Remodel

Colorado Springs, CO

If ever a project had a novel to tell, it was this Mid-Century Modern home. This homeowner came to us looking to remodel his childhood home, and we were honored to be chosen to write this family’s history through furniture, art, accessories, and vibrant colors and textures.

He was moving back into the house after his parents had passed, and wanted a space that was both meaningful for him and a reflection of what they would’ve loved. He wanted a place with personality that suited his unique interests and lifestyle.

He contacted us to transform the space into a thoughtfully-designed, Mid Century modern home that he could enjoy comfortably and feel proud to call home.

Because the client grew up in this home, he requested we use as much of the period furniture as possible, allow him to easily rotate his vast art collection like a gallery, and use happy colors wherever possible.

Incorporating Art into this Mid Century Modern Home

Our homeowner’s existing home was full of valuable artwork, collectibles, and authentic Danish furniture. Having once served in the military, he was well-traveled, an avid art collector, golf and tennis player, and loves entertaining friends. We wanted to convey as much of his story as possible in the design of his soon-to-be-home.

We installed the art on cable wires so it could easily be rotated as desired. We built custom storage spaces in the finished basement for the library of art to live when not being displayed.

Two Homes Become One for a Unique Mid Century Modern Space

We combined the homeowner’s and his parent’s existing furniture as much as possible in the design and included new elements when a different piece was needed. Much of the furniture were period pieces, which were reupholstered to seamlessly match the new aesthetic. A professional organizer assisted with paperwork and miscellaneous items, ensuring everything had a place and every item was chosen with detail and intention.

We renovated every inch of this home to elevate its appearance and updated the exterior to the Mid Century Modern feel inside. Additionally, we constructed a “shed” that ultimately became a second sitting room to show period antiques.

A Mid Century Home Remodel that Brings Joy Everyday

Our homeowner is extremely proud of his home and the history it shares. He loves it and shared with us that it’s his “happy place”.

One of his favorite things to do is give visitors a tour and see their expressions as they walk through his inspiring, art-inspired home.

Turk Interiors Emblem

“Tricia Turk is the only person I needed to hire to complete a yearlong restoration of my house (built in 1960) from top to bottom: she knew all the rest of the home design team: a team that is professional, trustworthy, meticulous, and focused on top quality results. Tricia is someone that will give you peace of mind knowing you have put your confidence in the right person.”
