Living Room Designed by Turk Interiors in a Whole Home Remodel in Colorado Springs

Custom Whole Home Remodel

Colorado Springs, CO

The four principles of Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging) are: a fresh approach, movement, balance and harmony.

During the several years of remodeling this home for this empty nester couple, we were guided by these tenets. While we were aware the homeowner had a pottery studio as we designed doors to enclose the space, we didn’t know she studied the art of Ikebana floral arranging and created vessels for her arrangements until we redesigned their main living area. It was clear she was a creative person who has a keen sense of color and balance but didn’t have clarity on how to translate that into remodeling her primary bathroom, kitchen or dining room.

Many of the material selections and decisions on layout in this custom home remodel were influenced by balance and harmony.

Her preferred colors were earthy and calming, so we developed a cohesive palette to be used throughout the home. While she was an artist at heart, her husband was all about functionality and practicality. He wanted his home to flow while still feeling warm, inviting, and true to both of them, and their life together.

European wide plank oak floors set the foundation for a completely new main level living area in this custom home remodel. A redesigned fireplace with large scaled patterned tile brings movement to the open concept design. Carefully curated custom furniture was introduced and the final layer of existing art, ikebana vessels were reintroduced.

We replaced the original honey oak kitchen cabinets with two-toned cabinets with a simple shaker style door design. The quartzite countertops and backsplash marries the sage, camel and ivory palette. Additionally, we removed a wall and reconfigured the island to open the kitchen up to improved function and flow. We transformed the rarely used formal dining room by designing sleek, frameless cabinetry in a rich cocoa bean stain. The cabinetry is elegantly inset into a niche, which is adorned with grasscloth wallcovering and features custom floating metal and glass shelves. These shelves provide the perfect showcase for the homeowners’ beautiful ikebana creations.

To add a touch of sentimentality, we incorporated their cherished family dining table, complementing it with custom leather chairs wrapping the backs in an oversized houndstooth fabric. This combination of old and new creates a captivating and timeless ambiance in the dining room.

The primary bathroom received a new shower layout with an enclosed toilet room. But the most beautiful part of this space was the Taj Mahal quartzite for the countertops. We carried these colors, textures into the primary bedroom with new furniture and custom bedding and window coverings.

This thoughtful, family-oriented, and caring couple have resided in a variety of locations and share a love for travel. They wanted a home that felt comfortable and inviting while reflecting their life adventures.

This couple absolutely loves the modern, inviting feel of their whole home remodel and have enjoyed creating lasting memories within its walls with family, friends, and each other.
